Locked Down: Stress in Corrections

This course is designed to educate correctional officers, jail staff and their families on the psychological effects from stress and trauma working within the correctional environment. This eight-hour course encompasses the types of stressors correctional officers and jail deputy’s face.

Incorporated within the seminar are how stress management techniques are essential to the long-term welfare of the individual and his/her family members. Issues surrounding stress in a correctional setting, like the effects, sources and symptoms of stress, burnout and positive coping strategies are covered. Participants will be able to:

  • Define stress and identify the effects of stress;
  • Identify the sources of stress;
  • Identify the physical and behavioral symptoms of stress;
  • Define burnout, and
  • Identify positive coping strategies.
