Gary P. Maddox has been a faculty member and Director of LETI since 1993. Prior to that he served as Assistant Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety and Director of Peace Officer Standards and Training for Missouri; Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Administration and Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Division at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri; Police Evaluation and Research Specialist for the Missouri Council on Criminal Justice; Police Officer, Bomb Technician and Crime Prevention Specialist with the University of Missouri-Columbia Police Department.
Dr. Maddox holds a Ph.D. in Higher and Adult Education/Educational Psychology from the University of Missouri, an Ed. S. in Higher Education from the University of Missouri, a Master of Science Degree as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Central Missouri State University. He holds certifications in firearms instruction, hazardous devices, self-defense (PPCT) and defensive driving. He is also a member of the Training and Education Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Chair of the Testing and Curriculum Committee of the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners. He has published a number of articles on police training, education, management and leadership issues and has spoken and trained nationally and internationally on many occasions regarding these and related matters.
