Kenneth R. (Ken) Hawkins came to the Law Enforcement Training Institute in 1993 after retiring from Columbia, Missouri Police Department. He serves as the Academy Coordinator and instructs in the areas of patrol, criminal investigations, firearms, defensive tactics and defensive driving. He served with Columbia PD from 1972 - 1993 and during this time served in the Patrol, Investigative, Traffic and Crime Prevention Units. He served as a patrol officer, a detective in property and persons units, an investigator for the county prosecuting attorney, a traffic re-constructionist and a DARE officer. Ken is a native of the mid-Missouri area and received a bachelors degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections from Truman University in Kirksville, MO. Ken holds national certifications in NHTS Field Sobriety Testing, defensive driving, Monadnock PR-24 / Expandable Baton and is an Instructor Trainer in PPCT Defensive Tactics System. Ken served in the Army in Viet Nam as a Military Police officer and is retired from the U S Army Reserves Criminal Investigation Division as a Chief Warrant Officer 3.
