Seminars in Law Enforcement

Excited Delirium Response

The medical condition known as Excited Delirium continues to challenge law enforcement in their everyday roles.  Persons experiencing Excited Delirium can display sudden behaviors such as paranoia and hyperactivity, and they can fluctuate between aggressive and calm mental states very rapidly. So, it is very vital that officers can identify and respond to an ED situation as safely and quickly as possible.  Excited Delirium is a medical emergency and officers must document all the essential information that occurred at the scene.  This course is a “user level” course that will educate the officers in recognizing and managing individuals who are experiencing Excited Delirium.

Sudden, in-custody deaths are potential issues when dealing with individuals experiencing Excited Delirium; therefore, the course will discuss best practices and force issues to consider when dealing with such individuals.
